The little baby monkey is going through an emotional and difficult stage as his mother begins the process of weaning him. For a young monkey who has depended on his mother for comfort, protection, and milk, suddenly being refused can be very confusing. He may cry, cling to her body, or repeatedly try to nurse, hoping that his mother will change her mind.
From our perspective, the mother may appear to be treating her baby badly, but we should remember that animals have their own natural behaviors. Weaning is an important part of a young monkey’s development. As the baby grows stronger, the mother gradually encourages him to eat other foods and become more independent. She may push him away, move away when he approaches, or refuse to let him nurse.
The baby may not understand why his mother is suddenly behaving differently. His sad cries and attempts to stay close can make the situation heartbreaking to watch. However, these behaviors do not necessarily mean that the mother does not love her baby. In many cases, she is simply teaching him an important lesson about growing up.
During this time, the baby may begin exploring his surroundings more, learning to find food, climb, play, and interact with other monkeys. These experiences help prepare him for life without depending completely on his mother.
Although the weaning process can look harsh, patience and observation are important. The mother still provides protection and guidance even while refusing milk. Her behavior may be part of a natural process that helps her baby become healthier, stronger, and more independent.
